Getting Started

What exactly is KidsPlaylist?
KidsPlaylist is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that lets parents build an approved playlist of YouTube videos and gives children a clean, fullscreen player to watch them. There's no algorithm, no recommendations, and no rabbit holes. Think of it as a simple filter on top of YouTube: a private, curated watchlist just for your family.
How do I sign up?
Visit app.kidsplaylist.com and click "Start Free Trial." You'll enter your payment information, and we'll instantly generate your family code and activate your 14-day free trial. The whole process takes under two minutes.
Do I need to download an app?
KidsPlaylist is a Progressive Web App (PWA), so there's nothing to download from an app store. On most devices, you can install it directly from your browser by tapping "Add to Home Screen." On iOS, open KidsPlaylist in Safari and tap the Share button, then "Add to Home Screen." On Android, your browser will usually prompt you automatically.
What devices does KidsPlaylist work on?
KidsPlaylist works on any device with a modern web browser: iPhones, Android phones, iPads, Android tablets, Chromebooks, Windows PCs, and Macs. It installs as a PWA on all of them. For the best experience on a television, use a Chromecast or cast from a phone or tablet.

The Family Code

What is a family code and how does it work?
Your family code is a unique identifier that acts as your KidsPlaylist account, something like "xk3p-m7q2-r9vc." When you or a family member enters this code on any device, KidsPlaylist loads your approved playlist. The code is how your playlist stays in sync across devices, and how family members gain access without needing individual accounts.
Is the family code secure?
Yes. Your family code is a randomly generated, cryptographically unique string. It can't be guessed or brute-forced. That said, treat it like a password: share it only with trusted family members and don't post it publicly. If you believe your code has been compromised, you can reset it from the parent dashboard. The old code becomes invalid immediately.
Can multiple family members use the same code?
Yes, that's exactly the intended use. You can share your family code with a partner, grandparents, or any caregiver you trust. Everyone using the same code will see and contribute to the same playlist.
What if I forget my family code?
You provided an email address when you signed up. We can send your family code to that email address. Simply go to the sign-in page and click "Forgot my code." If you didn't provide an email, contact us at kontakt@novustella.dk and we'll help you verify your identity and recover your account.

Videos & Content

What videos can I add to KidsPlaylist?
You can add any publicly available YouTube video by pasting its URL into the parent dashboard. YouTube Shorts, regular videos, and videos from any public YouTube channel are supported. Private or age-restricted YouTube videos cannot be embedded and will not work. There is no limit on how many videos you can add.
Can I organise videos into different playlists?
Currently, KidsPlaylist has a single family playlist. We plan to add playlist folders (e.g., "Bedtime," "Learning," "Fun") in a future update. For now, you can order videos within the playlist to group similar content together.
What happens when a video ends?
When one video finishes, the next video in your approved playlist begins automatically. No recommendations, no suggested videos, no searching. The experience stays completely within your approved content.
Will kids see ads on the videos?
Videos in KidsPlaylist play via YouTube's embed player. We configure the player to minimise interruptions, but we cannot guarantee that YouTube will never serve an ad on a given video, particularly on monetised channels. What we can guarantee is that your kids will never see algorithmic recommendations, suggested videos, or autoplay to content outside your playlist.

Safety & Privacy

Do children need to create an account?
No. Children never create accounts, never log in, and never provide any personal information. The only account in KidsPlaylist belongs to the parent, and children interact only with the video player, which loads content based on the family code already installed on the device.
Is KidsPlaylist COPPA-compliant?
KidsPlaylist is designed with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) principles in mind. We do not collect personal information from children under 13, or children of any age. There are no child-facing forms, no registration flows for children, and no behavioural tracking. Our child-facing interface is a video player with play, pause, and volume controls.
What data do you collect about my family?
We collect: your family code (a pseudonymous identifier), your approved video playlist (YouTube URLs), and payment information (handled by Stripe, we never see your raw card details). We do not collect names, ages, viewing history, location, or device information beyond what's necessary to deliver the service.

Billing & Cancellation

How much does KidsPlaylist cost?
KidsPlaylist is $1.99 per month. Your first 14 days are completely free. You won't be charged until your trial ends, and only if you haven't cancelled.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Log in with your family code and navigate to Account Settings, then Billing, then Cancel Subscription. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. There are no cancellation fees and no waiting periods.
Can I get a refund?
If you cancel within 30 days of your first paid charge, we'll refund it in full, no questions asked. Beyond 30 days, we don't offer partial refunds for unused time, but you can cancel immediately and your access will continue through the end of that billing cycle.
